Apprenticeship Selection

step 1

Explore the benefits and opportunities available through Apprentice Alamance online and through the following events and opportunities:

  • Talk to your school’s career development coordinator about apprenticeship.
  • Attend an information session at your local high school. The sessions feature representatives from our employer partners and are open to students and parents.
  • Review the eligibility requirements for the program.
  • If you are homeschooled or cannot find information at your school about apprenticeship, contact us.
  • Talk to a parent or guardian about apprenticeship. It’s an exciting opportunity, but also a big commitment.
Step 2

Attend Company Tours

Company tours are required to apply for Apprentice Alamance. From November to late January, our employer partners invite prospective apprentices and their parents or guardians to tour their facilities, learn how the company operates, and discover the benefits of their specific apprenticeships.

Apprentice applicants and their parents or guardians must attend at least one company tour to be eligible for the apprenticeship program. Several companies offer virtual tours for convenience

Step 3

Submit Your Application

Applications are due every year on February 15. You must create an account, complete your initial application, submit your transcript and attendance records, and have a parent or guardian and your career development coordinator review it. Once your career development coordinator has signed off on it, our employee partners can review it and begin considering you for a position in their organization.

step 4

Attend Orientation

In March, selected applicants will receive invitations to continue the process by attending an orientation session held in March each year. Orientation spans four evenings. If selected, you can expect the following from orientation:

  • Hands-on activities, problem-solving situations, team-building scenarios, and testing, all while being observed and interacting with company representatives.
  • Meet-and-greets with company representatives to learn more about their available apprenticeships.
  • Program matching at the end of the four evenings (students and companies select their top three candidates, and Apprentice Alamance creates matches to maximize success).
step 5

Complete a Pre-Apprenticeship

Students who match with a company and meet all requirements will be invited to be pre-apprentices. Students will be notified of this offer in mid-April. The six-week paid pre-apprenticeship combines working at the company with taking classes at Alamance Community College.

During the pre-apprenticeship, employer partners will evaluate students for grades, performance, attendance, and general fit within the company and apprenticeship program.

step 6

Apprenticeship Selection

Individual students will meet with their company representative regarding the selection of apprentices in August. At that time, students who are accepted into Apprentice Alamance will receive information about adjusting their schedules, attending the official signing ceremony, and registering for classes at Alamance Community College.

In some cases, a pre-apprentice may not be selected as an apprentice. If a student is a rising senior and still interested in the program, they may go through the process again the following year.
